Playing the role of Dr. Alex Karev throughout 16 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy on ABC channel with 350 episodes, actor Justin Chambers has confirmed that he will leave the famous medical television series.
Recently, the actor confirmed to Deadline that he is ready to continue with new roles. He said: “I don’t know how to say goodbye to the show and the character that has accompanied me for the past 15 years. However, at the present time, I want to diversify my roles.” and create more options for myself. The character of Dr. Alex Karev first appeared in the early episodes of the series in 2005 as an intern at Seattle Grace Hospital, and eventually became a pediatric surgeon. Dr. Alex quickly became one of the favorite characters with his thoughtfulness towards his young patients as well as his friends. Initially, this character made a bad impression on viewers with his rude behavior towards patients and colleagues while working as an intern. Alex’s relationship with characters Meredith Gray (Pompeo), Christina Yang (Sandra Oh), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and George O’Malley (T.R. Knight) then becomes the center of the film. The last episode Justin Chamber appeared in aired on November 14 and involved Alex taking a break from the hospital to take care of his mother.
With 16 seasons, Grey’s Anatomy is the longest-running medical television series and still maintains its top position. The series is ABC’s most-watched and highest-rated series among 18- to 49-year-olds. Currently, only Ellen Pompeo, James Pickens Jr., and Chandra Wilson remain from the original cast.
